New York Exempt Use Certificate
A sales tax exemption certificate can be used by businesses (or in some cases, individuals) who are making purchases that are exempt from the New York sales tax. You can download a PDF of the New York Exempt Use Certificate (Form ST-121) on this page. For other New York sales tax exemption certificates, go here.
A range of goods and services are not subject to NY sales tax. They could be purchased, rented, or leased without paying the state sales and use tax. Benefiting from their tax-free status is simple. Fill out this form and give it to the vendor at the time of the purchase. You can also send the form electronically. Be careful though: misuse of this exemption certificate may result in civil and criminal proceedings against you. So be sure that you are using it in good faith (i.e. you are not knowingly breaking the law).
